NetSafe Error Events

An explanation of the "Access Is Denied" and "Network Name Cannot Be Found" events found in the Windows Event Viewer on the NetSafe server.

Whether a previously working location stops receiving items or a new location does not appear to be working one of the best places to troubleshoot is the Windows Event Viewer on the NetSafe server. NetSafe will log error events under the Interbit Relay Agent source that relate to entries that are unable to reach the target location folder for any reason. When reviewing the Windows Event Viewer, each event relating to entries that could not process (and thus are not leaving the Relay Pending queue) can be found there. It is possible to search these by the location mnemonic by selecting Ctrl+F on the keyboard. The two most common reasons are Access Is Denied and Network Name Cannot Be Found.

The Access Is Denied event error is an indication that the folder path in question is valid but the user account running the Interbit Relay Agent service does not have proper permission to deliver files there. This very likely means that there are security or share permissions missing from the location folder compared to the folders of working locations. In these situations it is best to compare the permissions on the folder where this problem is occurring to a working location to ensure they are the same. This is especially true for locations that were just created.

For the Network Name Cannot Be Found error, this message indicates the folder path is not valid and could not be reached at all. This could also be due to permissions but is more likely related to the folder not being shared or the folder path being incorrectly entered. To confirm a folder path it is best to copy and paste the full path into the Windows File Explorer. If the path can not be reached there either then further investigation would be required to determine why.
